Three Candles For The Manhattans' Blue Lovett, Sonny Bivins and Kenneth Kelly

Trying to get current in all things soul music after a long stretch of busyness, I heard the saddest news. It is almost uncanny that three of the original Manhattans died only months apart.

Blue Lovett and Sonny Bivins passed away in December -- and now on Feb 17, Kenneth Kelly followed them.

These three men laid the foundation for the most beautiful music this world has ever known. May they rest in peace.

I will post a Manhattans Special soon.

I consider myself very lucky to have met Mr. Kelly. I'll repost my comments I made over at the Soul Source website.

I first heard about Mr. Kelly's death while at work today. My girlfriend emailed me the news. My girlfriend was lucky enough to be a co-worker with Mr. Kelly at Sam's Club located not too far from where we live in Edison, NJ. He was real down to earth and always a pleasure to talk to. He was also low key, so I never got a chance to talk about his music career, as I respected his privacy. I would just quickly say hi and maybe chit chat about normal everyday things. I haven't had to chance to see him in recent months because of my girlfriend's bout with bladder cancer and her successful surgery to remove the cancer. We only saw him once after her surgery. He seem to be doing fine. If he was sick he did not show it. He always had a smile on his face. He will be deeply missed. My condolences to his family and friends.
