Today's
song is one of those tunes that got me hooked the first time ever I
heard it. Charles Farren delivers a truly great deep soul bluesy ballad. His
voice, gritty and intense ranges from baritone through falsetto -- with
adorable ease. And the music is not bad either. Unfortunately, this artist never got the material, it appears, he deserved with a voice like his.
Charles Farren apparently made only two records. "Alone" b/w "You Got Everything" in 1964 for Limelight and in 1966 "You've Changed My Life Around" b/w today's song, "A Girl Like You" (Hawk Records). The A-side is more of a Northern Soul piece in the typical 60's dance style.
